Barfoots’ net-zero targets approved

Barfoots are committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050, and we are delighted to have our emissions reduction targets officially approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

SBTi is a global corporate climate action organisation that enables companies and financial institutions worldwide to play their part in combating the climate crisis. SBTi checks whether companies’ climate targets are in line with the latest climate science. It makes sure businesses are setting meaningful and credible plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

This has entailed a two-year process of gathering and collating detailed carbon emissions data from across the business including Barfoots’ operations site, Barfoot Energy, Barfoot Farms, Barfoots Cropping, Barfoots Iberica, and Barfoots Senegal. Everything from the fertiliser used on the fields to the packaging and logistics of moving raw materials and finished products and everything in between has been covered.

The approval by SBTi means that our targets for carbon emissions reduction have been independently reviewed and accepted as aligning with the sustainable development goals set by the United Nations.

Our targets are recognised as being ambitious, realistic, and aligned with what is needed to help tackle climate change, signalling Barfoots’ commitment to sustainability.

“This is an important milestone for Barfoots and reflects the work already taking place across Barfoots to improve efficiency, reduce emissions, and operate more sustainably. It also strengthens our commitment to customers, suppliers, and the wider community that we are taking practical action for the future.” Steve Brown, Head of Customer Technical.
